River Report

Camp Bonaventure Fishing & River Report July 9th to 15th, 2018

Despite last weeks heat wave where temperatures climbed into the high 90’s, we managed to hook and land a number of fine salmon.  The weather’s been hot and very humid across the Gaspe Peninsula and all our rivers are experiencing low water conditions. Despite lower water conditions we did however land a good number of salmon and grilse but we’re working a little harder for them.

The Bonaventure is low but still cool and holding at 12 cubic meters per second , very low for this time of the season. The Petite Cascapedia is seeing a nice run of fresh fish but the water is low at 9 Cubic meters per second. The Grand Cascapedia has been producing some nice fish but it’s also getting very low and flowing at 14.

Pascale Simon with her first one of the season, well done Pascale! see you next year.

We could really use some rain, all the rivers on the Peninsula are low at the moment but certainly still fishable. We are fortunate that our rivers run cold from the Chic-Choc mountains and remain cool even when the weather warms up. The weather man is calling for showers on Monday and Tuesday, lets hope he’s accurate for once!

Camp Bonaventure regular Serge Gagne sure know how to catch them, Nice one on our Poirier pool Serge!

The hot fly’s for the week have been a mixture of dry’s and small wets. Green, Dark Brown and especially Blue Bombers were responsible for most of the catches.  In the wet fly department, the John Olin, Green Butt and Black Ghost did the job, the Green Machine is also catching up pretty quickly as one of the best fly’s.  The sizes that are working best are number 8’s 10’s and 12’s.

Until next week,

Tight Lines,

Glenn
