River Report April 2012

The ice is out and all our rivers are in early Spring flow. Some warm days in mid April with unusual temperatures in the 80 degree range opened up our rivers and created a few impressive ice jams. The road along the Grand Cascapedia was closed for a few days due to flooding. Route #299 between New Richmond and St Anne des Monts was damaged and crews are still working on repairs. The Bonaventure has a huge ice jam just below Malin pool – we haven’t heard yet if cottages along the river were hit. The Petite Cascapedia broke up without any event. Thank goodness the weather turned colder and lower temperatures allowed for a slower thaw.

We are now experiencing a normal spring melt and we’re in full spring flow – high and dirty. The snow pack in the mountains will give up plenty of water well into June; lets hope Mother Nature is kind with regular weekly rainfall this summer.

The Bonaventure during the Spring run-off – not dry fly water!
