Salmon Lodge Fishing Report July 8th to 14th, 2013

Fishing continues to be productive but for the first time this season it’s beginning to slow down a bit. Perhaps we were getting a little spoiled with all the fantastic fishing since opening day. The weather’s been hot and very dry with temperatures near the 30C degree range. We did manage to land a good number of nice salmon and grilse but we are having to work a little harder for them. The weatherman is calling for rain on Wednesday and perhaps a thunder storm, we’re keeping our fingers crossed. The Bonaventure is low at the moment however we’re still doing very well, especially in our upper pools. The Petite Cascapedia is seeing a nice run of fresh fish, the water’s low but still remains cool. The Grand Cascapedia has been producing some nice fish but it’s getting low and could really use some rain.

Thomas Mahnke has been coming to Salmon Lodge for many years and here’s why, good going Thomas!

The hot fly’s this past week were mostly bombers, Green, Brown, and Blue all tied with white wings and tail. Wets  in sizes 8, 10 and 12’s were also responsible for a good number of fish. The patterns of choice were the John Olin, Stone Ghost, Undertaker and Green machine.

Ron Brennman with a nice Bonaventure fish, congradulations Ron.

Allan Phillips, from “across the pond” releases a bright fish on the Bonaventure.

Until next week and hopefully its a wet one!.
