River Report

Salmon Lodge fishing report June 18th to 24th, 2012

During the past week I spent most of my spare time watching the weather network, looking, hoping and praying for rain . Well by Friday we saw our first clouds of the month roll in and by 4PM we actually saw a few drops of rain. It wasn’t the amount we were  hoping for but is was certainly more than welcome.

Our water levels are low but we still have plenty of it to allow salmon to enter the river without a problem.  despite the low water fishing continued to be great with loads of fresh salmon coming in on every tide. All our pools on the Bonaventure are  holding fish and they are spread along the entire river. The Petite Cascapedia opened on June 15th and fishing has also been good,  fish are in most og the pools from Big Eddy to Home Pool. The Grand Cascapedia continues to be low, especially the upper branches. We haven’t been fishing the Grand for a week due to low water, this rain however will most certainly move the levels.

Adam Abbas with one of many he caught this past week, Well done Adam!

The “must have” fly’s for this past were the Blue Charm, Stone Ghost and Green Highlander in Sizes 6, 8 and 10. Tube fly’s continue to produce every day, especially the smaller ones and hitch tubes. Dry’s were responsible for about half the salmon caught, Brown , green and Blue bombers in sizes 2, 4 and 6.

Lets hope mother nature smiles upon us this week with a good downpour.
