Spey Casting and Atlantic Salmon Fishing School – 2013

Topher Browne and Greg Pearson the producers of the DVD “Spey to Z,”will teach a seven-day spey-casting and spey-fishing school at Salmon Lodge in June of 2013.

Salmon Lodge, our sister lodge on the Grand Cascapedia will be hosting a Spey casting and  Atlantic Salmon fishing school from June 2nd to 9th, 2013. Participants will learn all aspects of Spey Casting and fish the Grand Cascapedia and Bonaventure for the first bright salmon run of the season. Day one and two will concentrate on developing your technique, days 3 to 7 will take you on the river with Topher and Greg.

You will learn the four major spey casts—the circle spey, the double spey, the snake roll and the single spey—from both the left bank and the right bank. We will spend at least half of the school on the river searching for early-season silver bullets.

Evening sessions will discuss the benefits of monofilament leaders and polyleaders as well as the advantages and disadvantages of Scandinavian-style shooting heads, Skagit-style shooting heads and longer-belly lines.

Topher has vast experience around the world fishing for Atlantic salmon. He is an elite-level caster and fly-casting instructor. His first book, Atlantic Salmon Magic, was released in 2010.

Greg is a self-admitted fly-fishing super nerd.  He is a FFF Certified Casting Instructor whose enthusiasm for fishing a fly is infectious.  A phenomenal spey caster who regularly holds clinics across the country, he is also the star of the DVD Spey to Z.  If that wasn’t enough talent, Greg is also an artist and illustrator.  He has illustrated several fly fishing books, including Simon Gawesworth’s Spey Casting.
